Savvas Socratous: “We need to adopt a learning mindset to remain competitive”

Savvas Socratous, CEO and Coach at Student Life Academy, emphasised the importance of personal responsibility, adaptability and continuous learning as the labour market undergoes significant transformation.

Speaking at Inspire 2026’s ‘Future of Work’ stage, Socratous highlighted the growing challenge of matching employees' existing capabilities with the changing skills required by employers.

“We need to adopt a learning mindset to remain competitive,” he said, explaining that professionals must recognise the importance of developing new competencies throughout their careers.

Socratous warned that remaining within one's comfort zone could become an obstacle, particularly for experienced employees who have already established successful careers.

He also stressed that professional development should not depend entirely on employers.

“We must take responsibility ourselves,” he explained, noting that investing in personal development strengthens individuals beyond their immediate professional responsibilities.

Addressing the value of university education, Socratous argued that degrees remain important because they cultivate ways of thinking that can support individuals throughout their lives.

“Choose your degree not for the title, but for the way that field teaches you to think,” he advised.

He concluded by emphasising that theoretical knowledge must be complemented by practical training, allowing professionals to apply their skills effectively in real working environments.
