On Thursday, 8 October 2026, Safe Bulkers Inc. held its scholarship award ceremony for the 2026–2027 academic year at the company’s head offices in Limassol, as an integral programme of its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policy.
With a total contribution of €100,000, Safe Bulkers Inc. continues to demonstrate its commitment to education and to the aspirations of young people, providing them with opportunities to pursue their studies and shape their own futures.
Mr. Polys V. Hajioannou, Chief Executive Officer of Safe Bulkers Inc., highlighted the particular significance of this year’s ceremony, marking six consecutive years of the company’s scholarship programme and its meaningful support for young people and their families.
As part of the programme, ten (10) students from Cyprus were selected through a rigorous and merit-based evaluation process, in accordance with the programme’s academic and social criteria. Each student was awarded a scholarship of €10,000, in recognition of their character, sense of responsibility and dedication.
This year’s scholarship recipients are pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies at universities in Greece and abroad, primarily in fields related to Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Law, as well as emerging areas of Information Technology and Data Science.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of Mrs. Marina Hadjimanoli, Deputy Minister of Shipping of the Cyprus Republic; Mr. Yiannis Armeftis, Mayor of Limassol; and Mrs. Zoe Polydorou, Representative of the Ministry of Education and District Inspector for Limassol.
Special guest Ms. Olivia Fotopoulou, Pan-Cypriot champion in the 100m and 200m events and member of the Cyprus National Team, also addressed the students. Drawing on her own experience of postgraduate studies in the United States, she highlighted the importance of perseverance and patience in achieving one’s goals and aspirations.
Remaining true to its values of excellence and social responsibility, Safe Bulkers will continue to strengthen its Scholarship Programme, firmly believing that investing in education and the younger generation is an investment for the future.
Through this ongoing commitment, we aim to support the ambitions and potential of Cyprus’s young people, contributing to the development of the next generation of skilled professionals who will shape the future of Cyprus’s shipping industry.
Congratulations to all our scholarship recipients! We wish them every success in their studies and in every step of their academic and professional endeavours.
