New positive developments for the Bank of Cyprus on the front of international investor confidence, as Eaton Vance, an investment management company owned by Morgan Stanley, has increased its stake in the bank’s share capital to 3.02%.
According to an announcement, Eaton Vance has crossed the 3% threshold, triggering the relevant notification of major shareholdings (TR-1).
The development carries particular weight given the investor's identity. Eaton Vance is part of Morgan Stanley, one of the world’s most powerful and widely recognised financial groups, with a significant presence in investment and asset management.
Morgan Stanley acquired Eaton Vance in 2021, in a deal valued at approximately $7 billion, substantially strengthening its position in the global asset management industry. Since then, Eaton Vance has operated within the group, retaining its name and specialisation in specific investment strategies.
Strong message to international markets
The increase in the stake held by an investment organisation of this size and standing can be interpreted as a meaningful vote of confidence in Bank of Cyprus and its prospects.
The development reinforces the positive image Bank of Cyprus has built in recent years, through a significantly strengthened capital position, sustainable profitability, an improved loan portfolio and value creation for its shareholders.
The development is particularly significant at a time when Bank of Cyprus is recording strong financial performance, expanding its lending activity and continuing to reward shareholders through distributions.
The presence of international investment organisations in its shareholder base is an important element of the bank’s position in the capital markets, as it enhances its international visibility and highlights interest in the prospects of the Cypriot banking sector.
Particularly noteworthy is the fact that the new announcement concerns a company linked to Morgan Stanley, adding further international investor interest to the development
