Europe is emerging as one of the key drivers of global aviation growth, according to the latest OAG data for July 2026. Total capacity in the European market reached 177.6 million available seats, recording a 3.6% increase compared to July 2025.
This development reflects the strength of the European aviation market, as airlines continue to expand their presence in the region. The increase in capacity translates into more available seats for passengers and, consequently, enhanced connectivity between European destinations.
The picture, however, is not uniform across all markets. European growth coexists with significant variations between regions and markets, demonstrating how airlines are adjusting their capacity according to demand and conditions in each market.

Of particular interest is the comparison with other major aviation markets. In the United States, for example, total scheduled capacity in July stood at 126.6 million seats, down 1% year-on-year. In contrast, the European market moved upwards, strengthening its position as a significant pillar of global aviation activity.
For Cyprus, this European dynamism creates a broader framework of opportunities. The increase in capacity in Europe can support the maintenance and expansion of Cyprus’s air connections with key markets, strengthening the country’s position within the European air transport network.
With Europe on an upward trajectory, competition to attract and retain aviation capacity is expected to remain crucial for European airports and destinations.
