Tourism Deputy Minister Kostas Koumis and Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides discussed at a meeting on Thursday how to improve tourism services and AI's link with tourism.
A presentation on "Clever Tourism 2032: The Cypriot Artificial Intelligence Strategy" was delivered by the Chief Scientist's team, focusing on the tourism sector to further strengthen the effort for Cyprus' digital transformation as a tourism destination, a Deputy Ministry press release said, adding that it was done in the framework of a public consultation on the AI National Strategy, which concludes on August 31.
The strategy, it noted, "aims to showcase Cyprus as a living lab by combining cutting-edge technology with authentic Cypriot hospitality." It is based on three axes, namely smart tourism infrastructure, smart planning and destination management and an enhanced digital tourist, while particular emphasis will be placed on small and medium-sized tourism businesses.
Koumis noted that the government and the Deputy Ministry "seek to make the most of artificial intelligence". He said that together with the Chief Scientist's team, the aim is "to increase our country's competitiveness as a tourism destination as well as improving the tourism experience."
He added that improving tourism services is now linked with functions which have come to light due to AI development, something which Cyprus should make the most of as a destination.
