A 50 per cent drop in bad cheques issued was recorded in July compared with the same month last year, with their total value standing at €40,799, the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) announced on Wednesday.
In July, a total of 16 bounced cheques were recorded, compared with 30 in the same month of 2025. In July 2025, 30 bad cheques with a total value of €42,715 were registered, while in July 2024, 36 cheques were recorded, with a total value of €60,416.
During the January-July 2026 period, CBC data showed that 101 bounced cheques were registered on the preliminary CIR list, with a total value of €288,489. This compares with 145 cheques, worth €309,599, recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
The bad cheques issued between January and July 2026 concerned a total of 70 persons, comprising 48 legal entities and 22 individuals.
Furthermore, CBC data showed that nine persons were registered in the CIR in July 2026. Of these, four were legal entities, one was a natural person, and four were natural persons controlling legal entities.
During the first seven months of 2026, a total of 69 persons were registered in the CIR, compared with 63 during the corresponding period of 2025.
