'Hope For Children' CRC Policy Center (HFC) and Chevron Cyprus have marked another milestone in their long-standing partnership with a Humankind Day volunteer activity at the Children's House in Nicosia, Republic of Cyprus. It is the latest initiative in a partnership that has supported vulnerable children since 2020.
In June of this year, a team of 13 Chevron employees came together to support the Children’s House through hands-on volunteering work, which included painting outdoor furniture and exterior walls in a newly constructed section. The team also assembled new waiting room furniture and added creative touches such as a handcrafted decoration placed beneath the examination bed.
A particularly heartfelt addition, artwork created by employees' children now brightens the waiting room, adding warmth and color.
The team also added new plants to the garden and repaired the facility's irrigation system.
Beyond enhancing the physical space, the team’s work helps strengthen the facility's mission of providing children with comfort, safety, and respect during challenging times in their lives.
Andria Neocleous, Executive Director of Hope for Children stated, "Meaningful partnerships like the one we share with Chevron Cyprus enable us to strengthen the services we provide to children who have experienced abuse. Their continued support reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that every child receives the care, protection, and dignity they deserve."
Children’s House (Spiti tou Paidiou) is a specialised child-friendly facility dedicated to the handling of cases of child sexual abuse and exploitation in Cyprus. Its operation has been entrusted to Hope for Children by the Social Welfare Services of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, which oversee and fund the facility.
Based on the internationally recognised Barnahus model, the Children’s House adopts a multidisciplinary, child-centered approach by bringing together all relevant services under one roof. This enables children to receive coordinated medical, psychological, social, and legal support, as well as rehabilitation services, in a safe and supportive environment. The Children’s House operates through close collaboration with the Cyprus police force and other Cypriot organisations, including Social Welfare Services, the Educational Psychology Service of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the Mental Health Services and the Medical Services of the Ministry of Health.
Chevron Cyprus’ commitment to the work of 'Hope for Children' has also been reflected in its support for other initiatives serving vulnerable children.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Noble Energy, which merged with Chevron in 2020, has contributed €10,000 to support the 'Homes for Hope' program. These shelters provide unaccompanied children—many arriving in Cyprus from neighboring countries—with safe accommodation, access to education, and essential care until they reach adulthood.
Over time, several of these children have successfully graduated from universities in Cyprus, becoming active and valuable members of society.
In 2022, Chevron Cyprus further strengthened this partnership by donating 10 used laptops and office furniture to 'Hope for Children.' These resources helped upgrade administrative capabilities and supported the creation of a computer lab at the Nicosia Home for Hope, enabling children to complete their schoolwork in a more supportive and structured environment.
In 2024, through Humankind Day, which is an initiative that combines a charitable giving contribution with employee’s volunteerism activity, Chevron Cyprus donated €10,000 to the Children's House, reaffirming its commitment to improving the lives of these vulnerable children.
Humankind Day is not only about giving back, it is about connection, compassion, and making a tangible difference together.
