Psaras Construction: The People Behind the Projects

A visit to the offices of Psaras Construction reveals much more than technical drawings, project timelines and construction plans. Behind the daily operations of a construction company with a strong presence in the Cypriot market, there are people who coordinate construction sites, monitor safety matters, assess costs, manage financial processes and contribute, each from their own position, to the completion of demanding projects.

We met four members of the Psaras Construction team: Polys Polycarpou, Project Manager, Kalia Aloupou, Chief Accountant, Niki Katzi, Cost Estimator, and Rafaela Kkolou, Health and Safety Assistant. Our discussion with them highlighted a company that invests in quality and safety, while also placing particular emphasis on the human factor.

What is daily life like at Psaras Construction?

Polys Polycarpou: Every day at Psaras Construction is fulfilling, combining productivity, collaboration and creativity. Every project has its own requirements and challenges, which keeps the work dynamic and gives us the daily motivation to achieve the best possible result as a team.

Kalia Aloupou: As Chief Accountant, I am responsible for the proper management of the company’s accounting obligations, a role that requires accuracy, organisation and responsibility. In such a demanding environment, the friendly and human atmosphere at Psaras Construction plays a very important role, as it creates the feeling that you are in your second home. The respect, positive attitude and support within the team make everyday life more pleasant and productive.

Niki Katzi: As Cost Estimator, my daily routine includes quantity measurements, analysis of technical and financial data, collaboration with suppliers and subcontractors, as well as value engineering. It is a role that requires accuracy, focus and constant communication.

Rafaela Kkolou: In the Health & Safety department, my daily routine includes site inspections, risk assessments and supporting teams on safety matters. It is a role directly connected to prevention and the implementation of safe practices.

What is the company’s philosophy?

Polys: I would describe it as teamwork with the aim of providing the best possible service to the client. In everyday practice, this translates into collaboration, support between colleagues and a shared effort to ensure that every project is completed properly and consistently.

Rafaela: For me, the philosophy of Psaras Construction can be summed up in the words quality, professionalism and safety in every project. It is a company that places great importance not only on the final result, but also on the way in which that result is achieved.

What makes Psaras Construction stand out as an employer?

Niki: What stands out is its people, its team culture and the opportunities it offers for professional growth and development. As a woman, I particularly appreciate the fact that the company is guided by dynamic female leadership, which serves as a source of inspiration. It shows that growth and success are based on skills, knowledge and dedication.

Kalia: Psaras Construction does not operate in an impersonal way. Management is always available to listen and discuss any issue that concerns an employee, whether it relates to their professional or personal life. This creates a strong sense of acceptance and respect, both from colleagues and from management.

How does the company support the development of its people?

Polys: The company supports its people in a meaningful and practical way. Through seminars and training sessions, it gives us the opportunity to develop both in technical matters and in emerging areas, such as artificial intelligence and team management. At the same time, it invests in modern equipment that facilitates everyday work, while regular evaluation helps each employee improve and ensures that their efforts are recognised.

Kalia: The company systematically organises corporate seminars and informative workshops for all staff, regardless of position. Most of these take place at the head offices, giving employees from different departments and areas the opportunity to meet, get to know each other better and gain the same knowledge and tools, without exclusions.

Which elements of the corporate culture make everyday life special?

Niki: The company actively shows its interest in its people beyond the professional environment. Initiatives such as Family Day, sports activities, futsal tournaments, shooting and other team events strengthen relationships between colleagues and their families. These initiatives create a positive, close-knit and human working environment.

Which projects excite you the most?

Rafaela: I am particularly excited by large Class A projects, because through them one can understand the company’s high level of organisation, quality and safety.

Kalia: Personally, I single out hotel projects. After their completion, we have the opportunity to visit them and enjoy their services, seeing in practice the result of our work.

How important is safety?

Rafaela: Safety is an absolute priority and an essential condition for the success of every project. That is why the company’s motto is “Safety First”. It is not simply a procedure, but a mindset that must be applied every day on every construction site.

Polys: Safety is one of the three main pillars of the company’s operations, along with quality and efficiency. For Psaras Construction, safety is not just a statement, but a daily commitment. It invests heavily, both financially and in terms of time, in Health and Safety matters. The fact that it has been awarded by the Department of Labour Inspection shows that this effort is also recognised at industry level.

Which trends are changing the construction sector?

Niki: I believe that sustainability, the integration of ESG principles and the use of new, more efficient and environmentally friendly materials are shaping the future of the sector. The construction industry is evolving towards projects that combine quality, innovation and environmental responsibility.

Polys: The trends are clearly the industrialisation of work execution, the use of modern tools and machinery, as well as the application of artificial intelligence. At the same time, however, there is an important challenge for the sector: the shortage of skilled workers and foremen.

How is Psaras Construction responding to these changes?

Rafaela: The company is responding by investing in technology, training and modern project management methods, while placing even greater emphasis on safety. Continuous training and the use of best practices are key elements of this adaptation.

How do you see Psaras Construction in the coming years?

Kalia: I imagine Psaras Construction continuing its upward path, successfully addressing the challenges that the future will bring. I believe this can be achieved through teamwork, collaboration and the dedication of its people. Most importantly, however, it must continue to maintain the same principles and values that define it, both towards its clients and towards its employees.

Niki: I imagine Psaras Construction as an organisation that continuously raises the bar, investing in new ideas, technologies and people. A company that will continue to be a point of reference in the sector, while remaining true to the values that define it today.

What would you say to someone considering joining the team?

Polys: Psaras Construction is the best professional experience I have had in my 25-year career. It is a supportive company with a human approach, which I would wholeheartedly recommend to both young and experienced professionals.

Kalia: For someone who wants to work in the construction sector, Psaras Construction is one of the best choices. Through the company, one can experience in practice the value of teamwork, collaboration and dedication, while continuous seminars and development initiatives create meaningful prospects for growth.

Niki: Professionalism, technical excellence and a genuinely people-centred character are elements that define Psaras Construction. It is a company where every person’s contribution is valued and where you truly feel part of the team. For this reason, it is worth taking that step without hesitation.

Rafaela: A new team member will find at Psaras Construction a professional environment with opportunities for development, collaboration and a clear emphasis on safety and quality. It is a place where you can grow, working within a team that supports and trusts its people.
