Book of Condolences to be opened at the Qatari Embassy following the death of the former Amir of the State of Qatar

The Embassy of the State of Qatar has announced the passing of the nation’s great departed leader, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Amir of the State of Qatar, one of Qatar’s iconic leaders, the architect of its modern revival, and a man of peace.

As noted in an Embassy announcement, "During the reign of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, diplomatic relations were established between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cyprus. His Highness subsequently paid the first official visit by a Qatari Amir to the Republic of Cyprus in 2010, following the first official visit by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Demetris Christofias, to the State of Qatar in 2009, thereby laying the foundations for the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries."

Official mourning has been declared throughout the State of Qatar for a period of four days, during which flags shall be flown at half-mast.

H.E. Mr. Yousef Sultan Laram, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Cyprus, will receive condolences, and a Book of Condolences will be opened at the Embassy premises, located at 1 Qatar Street, 2054 Strovolos, Nicosia, on Monday, 13 July 2026, Tuesday, 14 July 2026, and Wednesday, 15 July 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, the announcement said.
