Cypriot delegation takes part in first transnational meeting of project for sustainable water use in Mediterranean in Spain

A Cypriot delegation has participated in the first transnational meeting of the European project Share.MedWATER that was held in Amposta, Spain, focusing on addressing water scarcity, reusing water resources and strengthening the resilience of Mediterranean regions to climate change.

In a press release, the Municipality of Athienou said that within the framework of the European project Share.MedWATER, which is co-financed by the Interreg Euro-MED program with lead partner the Larnaca and Famagusta Districts Development Agency (ANETEL), the first transnational meeting and field visit was held in Amposta, Spain (Evros Delta) on July 7-8.

The project aims to address water scarcity through the reuse of unconventional water resources (rainwater, graywater and treated wastewater), enhance resilience to climate change and promote innovative and participatory water management models in Mediterranean regions, the press release noted.

Finally, it said that the meeting in Spain focused on the presentation of the pilot project in the Evros Delta, the exchange of know-how between partners, as well as the discussion on the opportunities and challenges of water reuse at local and regional level.

The Cypriot delegation included President of the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation Angelos Hadjicharalambous, Mayor of Athienou and President of ANETEL, Kyriakos Kareklas, as well as ANETEL officials, General Manager, Vassilis Konstantinou and Project Coordinator, Dr. Evdokia Balamou.
