Tourism Ministry to promote 'Easter Villages' from 2027

The Deputy Ministry of Tourism is promoting the establishment of the 'Easter Villages' scheme from 2027, aiming to further enrich the tourism product and boost visitor numbers in Cyprus’ rural and mountainous areas.

According to a statement from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the related incentive scheme to organise Easter experiences and activities for 2027 was approved by the Council of Ministers last week following a proposal by the Deputy Ministry. The programme is addressed to municipalities and communities within the 'Heartland of Legends' route, covering rural, mountainous and remote communities.

Under the scheme, ten municipalities/communities will be selected to organise a comprehensive programme of hands-on activities from Holy Thursday until the Sunday of St. Thomas.

Events will include the preparation of traditional Easter foods and crafts, the decoration of the Epitaphios, traditional Easter games, guided tours by licensed guides, learning Cypriot traditional dances, introduction to Byzantine music and iconography, as well as outdoor activities. Optional stalls for the promotion and sale of local products may also be organised.

According to Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis, the Scheme aims to strengthen the tourism product during the Easter period, with an emphasis on attracting visitors to rural areas and supporting local communities, as well as preserving and promoting Cyprus’s cultural identity through authentic experiences.
