Panay says “you have to be anchored on tenant when you are building a product”

Panos Panay, the Senior Vice President, Devices, Alexa, and Leo, Amazon, discussed how to take products from innovation to real-world impact on Wednesday during a fireside chat with Chief Scientist of the Research and Innovation Foundation Demetris Skourides at the Digital Conference ‘Shaping the Next Digital Frontier’ held on Wednesday as part of the Cyprus EU Council Presidency.

During the discussion, Panay said that the one of the main questions to ask when designing a new product, is “will this make my customer’s life easier”. He added that this point is important when you are building on a global scale.

“If you think about building products that make your customers’ lives easier you can make an impact on the planet,” he said.

However, he did highlight that in some cases the customer does not always understand the immediacy of the product, and that inventing is not solely based on customer feedback. “When you are inventing the customer does not ways see the future with you,” he said.

Panay added the creator needs to know where the technology is taking them as a leader or as a business.

“You have to be anchored on tenants when you are building a product, because the customer does not always see the future outcome,” he said.
