Governors Patsalides and Stournaras lead the discussion on financial literacy

The importance of strengthening financial literacy continues to grow, particularly in light of the European Union’s Savings and Investments Union initiative. As individuals are increasingly called upon to navigate complex financial decisions related to saving, investing, borrowing, and managing their personal finances, the need for sound financial knowledge has never been greater.

Against this backdrop, the Central Bank of Cyprus will host the roundtable discussion “Financial Literacy for Life” on Thursday, 18 June 2026, featuring the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Christodoulos Patsalides, and the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Yannis Stournaras.

The event will take place at the Central Bank of Cyprus Amphitheatre and will explore the role of financial literacy in modern society, while addressing the challenges citizens face in relation to savings, investments, and financial planning.

As part of the event, the findings of a targeted survey conducted by the Central Bank on 24–25 February 2026 across selected locations in cities throughout Cyprus will be presented, alongside the survey results conducted online . The survey captures citizens’ perceptions, views, and attitudes towards financial behaviour, offering valuable insights into public understanding and engagement with financial matters.

Following the presentation of the findings, a roundtable discussion featuring the two Governors will take place. The discussion will focus on European approaches to financial literacy, the contemporary financial challenges faced by citizens, and the role of institutions in fostering responsible financial behaviour.

The discussion will be streamed live on the Central Bank of Cyprus’ YouTube channel on 18 June 2026, from 18:00 to 19:00, allowing the public to follow the conversation in real time. A recording of the event will also be made available for on-demand viewing.
