Lufthansa is making a significant strategic move, acquiring majority control of ITA Airways and strengthening its position in Europe.
Under the agreement, the German group is increasing its stake in ITA Airways from 41% to approximately 90%, through the purchase of an additional block of shares from the Italian state, in a transaction valued at approximately €325 million.
This development is a continuation of the initial investment in 2023, when Lufthansa had acquired a minority stake and had laid the foundations for the gradual integration of the Italian company into the group.
The agreement is still subject to approval by European and American regulators, mainly regarding competition issues, with its completion expected in 2027.
This move is part of the general trend of concentration and consolidation in the European aviation market, where large groups are expanding their footprint and creating stronger networks and economies of scale.
