Cyprus-Latvia Health Ministers sign MoU on Health and Medical Sciences

Minister of Health Neophytos Charalambides has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Health and Medical Sciences in Riga with his Latvian counterpart, Hosams Abu Meri.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, the agreement establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation between the two countries across a broad range of areas, including the organisation and delivery of healthcare services, the digitalization of healthcare systems, the training of health professionals, and the exchange of best practices concerning pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

The cooperation will also extend to public health research, health economics, and the coordination of actions aimed at the prevention and management of communicable diseases.

Charalambides was in Riga to participate in the 12th High-Level Meeting of the Small Countries Initiative of the World Health Organization’s European Region. The 4 June meeting was held under the theme: “From Shortages to Sustainability: Can Small States Lead Innovations in the Health Workforce?”

During his stay in Riga, the Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Olivér Várhelyi. Discussions focused on matters related to the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the field of health, ahead of the upcoming EU Health Ministers’ Council meeting scheduled for 16 June 2026.
