The President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has welcomed the Cypriot delegation, led by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides at the Palace of Independence in Astana.
During the first-ever visit by a Cypriot President to the largest country in Central Asia, the national anthem of the Republic of Cyprus was played by the Presidential Band, followed by the national anthem of Kazakhstan. Earlier, President Christodoulides greeted members of the Kazakh Government delegation.
A Cyprus Presidency post on X said, "President Nikos Christodoulides was welcomed at the Palace of Independence in Astana by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev, in the context of the first official visit of a President of the Republic of Cyprus to Kazakhstan. During their private meeting, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the will to further deepen bilateral relations, expressing the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the areas of entrepreneurship, connectivity, energy, investment and tourism. At the same time, he highlighted the role of the Republic of Cyprus as a reliable European partner that supports the further strengthening of the European Union's relations with Central Asia and in particular with Kazakhstan, which is the EU's most important partner in the region, while he informed his counterpart about the latest developments in the Cyprus issue. The two leaders also had the opportunity to exchange views on EU-Kazakhstan relations, as well as on regional and international issues of common interest."

The two Presidents first held a private meeting, after which expanded talks between the two delegations were scheduled to take place. This will be followed by the presentation of the Order of Friendship, Kazakhstan’s national honour, to President Christodoulides. The two leaders will then make statements to the media without taking questions.
The visit to the Palace of Independence will conclude with an official luncheon hosted in honour of the President of Cyprus.
