Finance Minister and ECA member discuss Cyprus Presidency and EU funds absorption

Issues related to Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as the role of the European Court of Auditors in relevant procedures, were discussed during a meeting between Cypriot Finance Minister Makis Keravnos and Member of the European Court of Auditors Lefteris Christoforou.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Finance, the 15 May meeting also focused on reports and opinions of the European Court of Auditors concerning the European Union’s new Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2028–2034.

Christoforou referred extensively to the positive implementation progress of Cyprus’ amended Recovery and Resilience Plan, which was approved by the Council of the European Union in December 2025 and amounts to €1.02 billion.

Reference was also made to the previous programming period of EU funds, during which Cyprus fully absorbed Cohesion Funds totalling €921.3 million.

Keravnos outlined the planning and priorities of the Cyprus Presidency, particularly regarding the handling of dossiers of mutual interest.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to the effective implementation of co-financed projects under both the Recovery and Resilience Facility and Cohesion Policy funds, so that European resources are fully utilised for the benefit of the economy and citizens.
