Cyprus' defence industry contributes decisively to efforts to upgrade our deterrent capability, President Christodoulides says

Cyprus’ defence industry is “not only a highly promising sector for our economy, but also contributes decisively to our effort to strengthen the country’s deterrent capability,” President Nikos Christodoulides has said in a post on X.

Reposting a message by Tasos Kounoudes, President of the Cyprus Association of Research and Innovation Enterprises, on the participation of the Cypriot defence industry by 28% in the projects under the European Defence Fund (EDF 2025), the President said that “we are proud of the Cypriot defence industry, and I truly believe that in the coming years its contribution to the country’s GDP could reach a two-digit figure.”

“I know first-hand its capabilities and prospects,” President Christodoulides said.

In his own post, Kounoudes said that with a 28% share in the European Defence Fund projects announced on April 15, 2026, the Cypriot defence industry continues to strengthen its presence in the European defence sector.

He added that the total budget of the projects exceeds 280 million euros and covers 16 projects involving 10 companies.

Kounoudes said this was the result of a long-term and systematic effort, targeted investments by businesses and a coordinated government policy in the sector.

He also thanked the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Defence for their support to the Cypriot defence industry.
