Cyprus EU Presidency aims to unblock Ukraine loan - sanctions package

A Cypriot official who briefed the press following Péter Magyar’s sweeping electoral victory in Hungary, said that the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU intends to unblock the €90 billion loan package for Ukraine and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia as soon as conditions permit.

As the official said, "Our goal as Presidency remains to conclude both the €90 billion loan package for Ukraine and the 20th sanctions package as soon as possible."

"We intend to put it on the agenda of COREPER as soon as conditions permit, with a view to a swift conclusion of both files,” the Cypriot official added.

At the same time, the official noted that the EU’s Permanent Representatives are expected to hold two meetings this week, with the agenda to be communicated in due course.
