Cyprus’ Ministry of Health says that it promotes science and evidence-based policymaking to improve public health.
Marking World Health Day on 7 April, in a statement, the Ministry said that health is a fundamental human right and a moral obligation owed to every individual, regardless of age, gender, origin or socio-economic status. It highlighted the World Health Organization’s definition of health as not merely the absence of disease, but a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being.
The World Health Organization’s 2026 campaign highlights the urgent need for collaboration and the use of scientific evidence to tackle modern health challenges, the Ministry noted. This year’s theme, “Together for Health: Stand by Science”, launches an annual campaign encouraging governments, scientists, institutions and the public worldwide to support science-driven approaches to health, it said, adding that the initiative stresses the importance of using robust scientific evidence in shaping policies related not only to healthcare, but also to climate and the environment.
Emphasis is placed on the “One Health” approach, which recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health, it further said.
The Ministry noted that it supports efforts for scientific advancement and that it participates in joint European Union initiatives designed to strengthen population health and develop policies grounded in evidence.
Noting that significant improvements in human health have been achieved through scientific progress, the Ministry said that the future will depend on how effectively science-based strategies are developed and implemented, while also stressing the importance of global solidarity and cooperation.
