Invest Cyprus welcomes the official launch of the Plug and Play Tech Center in Cyprus, a development that marks a new chapter for the country’s innovation ecosystem and further strengthens Cyprus’ strategic direction towards the development of high-value international partnerships.
The official launch of Plug and Play’s operations in Cyprus took place on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of the Deputy Minister to the President, Irene Piki, and the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr Nicodemos Damianou. The presence of one of the world’s leading innovation organisations, headquartered in Silicon Valley and present in more than 60 locations worldwide, substantially strengthens Cyprus’ position on the global innovation map, creating new prospects for startups, research organisations, investors and outward-looking businesses.
This development followed the recent visit of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to San Francisco, confirming in practice the country’s commitment to strengthening its international presence and developing partnerships with organisations that have a strong international footprint. In the context of the Government’s most recent mission to the United States, Invest Cyprus was in full coordination and communication with both the Government and Plug and Play, in order to contribute to shaping the conditions that led to its presence in Cyprus today.
Plug and Play is one of the most important international innovation organisations, with an extensive network of startups, partnerships with major multinational companies and strong links with investors and institutional stakeholders. Its establishment in Cyprus is expected to accelerate the growth of the local ecosystem, attract international talent and investment and support Cypriot startups in their efforts to grow and expand internationally.
At the same time, the operation of the Plug and Play Tech Center in Cyprus is expected to strengthen the country’s connectivity with a global network of know-how, entrepreneurship and capital, contributing to the creation of new opportunities for innovative businesses and to the further enhancement of Cyprus as a dynamic innovation hub in the wider region.
In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Invest Cyprus, Marios Tannousis, said, “The official launch of the Plug and Play Tech Center in Cyprus is a development of particular strategic importance for our country. It is a meaningful step that strengthens Cyprus’ innovation ecosystem and confirms that our country can attract internationally renowned organisations with a genuine development impact. It is particularly important that the first contacts with Plug and Play began in the context of the Government’s most recent mission to the United States and evolved into a collaboration that creates new opportunities for startups, research bodies, investors and businesses. Through such strategic moves, Cyprus is steadily strengthening its position as a modern, reliable and competitive destination for investment, technology and innovation.”
Invest Cyprus, together with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and the Research and Innovation Foundation, continue to actively support the country’s startup ecosystem, contributing to the creation of the right conditions for attracting investment, leveraging know-how and strengthening Cyprus’ international competitiveness.
