Limassol will host this year’s European Maritime Day (EMD) on 21 and 22 May 2026, during which Europe’s maritime community will meet to network, discuss and outline joint action on maritime affairs and sustainable blue economy.
The European Maritime Day (EMD) is an annual event providing an engaging and interactive experience to catch up on developments concerning Europe’s maritime policy and the protection of the marine environment. Activities taking place over the two days will include, among others, a conference and an exhibition. EMD targets a wide range of participants, including professionals from businesses, governments, public institutions, non-governmental organisations and academia. Alongside the Conference, an exhibition will be held, providing organisations and companies related to the blue economy with the opportunity to showcase their services.
EMD 2026 is organised by the European Commission, the Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Limassol Municipality. The event will take place at the Carob Mill Complex in the city centre, giving foreign participants the opportunity to experience the city’s maritime and coastal infrastructure.
The event programme includes:
- An opening session with speeches by the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, the Shipping Deputy Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, Marina Hadjimanolis and the Mayor of Limassol, Yiannis Armeftis
- High level panel discussions
- An exhibition of organizations and companies engaged in the blue economy
- 24 high quality workshops with the participation of maritime stakeholders
- Networking opportunities
In parallel with the conference and exhibition, local events will be held in coastal cities for the general public, featuring a rich programme of activities aimed at raising awareness about the benefits provided by the sea.
European Maritime Day 2026 is set to be a key platform for dialogue and collaboration on the future of Europe’s seas and sustainable development.
