Foreign Minister stresses the importance of maritime safety during teleconference on the Strait of Hormuz

Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos participated in a teleconference, convened by UK Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary Yvette Cooper, regarding the situation of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, during which he stressed the importance of maritime safety.

In his intervention on 2 April, the Foreign Minister noted Cyprus’ position in favour of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in support of all international initiatives for de-escalation and achieving a diplomatic solution to the regional crisis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.

Kombos highlighted the importance of maritime security, a priority issue for the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as a basic prerequisite for global stability and security, it added.

The teleconference was attended by Foreign Ministers from over 40 countries, the press release concluded.
