Stable unemployment rate in Cyprus, European data shows

Cyprus recorded an unemployment rate of 4.2% in February 2026, the same as in January, with the number of unemployed estimated at 22,000, according to data published by Eurostat.

This rate shows a slight decrease compared with February 2025, when it stood at 4.5% with around 23,000 unemployed, and remains significantly lower than the average unemployment rate in both the euro area and the European Union.

For the same period, the unemployment rate was 4.0% for men and 4.4% for women, remaining unchanged compared with the previous month.

Regarding youth unemployment in Cyprus, the most recent available data is from December 2025, when the rate for people under 25 was 15.1%, corresponding to approximately 5,000 young people.

At the European Union level, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.9% in February, stable compared with January, while in the euro area it stood at 6.2%, up from 6.1% in January 2026 and down from 6.3% in February 2025. The total number of unemployed is estimated at 13.118 million in the EU, of whom 10.919 million are in the euro area. Compared with January, unemployment increased by 137,000 in the EU and by 93,000 in the euro area, while compared with February 2025, it decreased by 18,000 in the EU and by 124,000 in the euro area.

Eurostat estimates that 2.957 million young people (under 25) were unemployed in the EU in February 2026, of whom 2.373 million were in the euro area. The youth unemployment rate was 15.3% in the EU, up from 15.2% in January, and 14.9% in the euro area, stable compared with the previous month.

Regarding unemployment by sex, in the EU the unemployment rate for women was 6.1% (up from 6.0% in January), while for men it was 5.7%, stable compared with the previous month. In the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 6.4% and for men 6.0%, also stable compared with January.
