The building announces itself quietly but with confidence. White curves rise from the pavement like the hull of a ship easing into the harbour, its glass reflecting the blue of the Mediterranean sky. Out front, large sculpted letters spell out ODYSSEY while a red sail arcs beside them, suggesting a journey still unfolding – it is an appropriate metaphor and an apt company name.
This particular odyssey is a story not only about cybersecurity technology or complex platforms. At its heart, it is about people – curious minds, collaborative teams and a culture built on trust, responsibility and expertise. “Odyssey Cybersecurity was founded in 2002 by our CTO, Eleftherios Antoniades, with the vision of helping organisations navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of digital threats and manage cyber risk in a structured and resilient way,” explains Irena Hadjivassiliou, Head of HR.
From the outset, the company focused exclusively on cybersecurity and cyber resilience, supporting organisations in protecting their digital environments while ensuring operational continuity and regulatory compliance. More than two decades later, it has matured into a company with a global footprint, and now operates across six countries and serves clients in more than 30 markets. It delivers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions through Managed Services, Advisory Services, Hybrid Integrated Solutions and its cloud-native ClearSkies™ Threat Detection, Investigation and Response (TDIR) Platform. These offerings combine advanced Artificial Intelligence capabilities with deep human expertise and operational experience, enabling organisations to detect threats faster, respond more effectively and maintain strong security governance across their environments. The industries it protects are equally varied and essential: financial institutions, energy providers, shipping companies, healthcare organisations, manufacturers, public sector bodies and critical infrastructure operators.
The past three years have seen steady growth, driven by the rising global demand for cybersecurity expertise. But growth, Hadjivassiliou notes, has never been pursued recklessly. The company hires deliberately, seeking not only technical capability but cultural alignment. Skills matter but so do curiosity, collaboration and a willingness to learn. “We currently employ approximately 200 professionals across our international operations, 70% of whom are experts in cybersecurity and cyber resilience. Of these, 90 are based locally. Over the past three years, our headcount has grown steadily and strategically: we focus on quality, cultural fit and long-term development rather than rapid expansion for its own sake.”
Step into the offices and this philosophy becomes visible almost immediately. Open collaborative areas encourage conversation and problem-solving between teams, while quieter zones allow engineers and analysts to utilise the concentration that their work demands. Meeting rooms sit between these worlds, spaces where ideas move from theory to solution. “Feedback shows that the environment promotes stronger interaction between departments and reinforces a sense of community,” Hadjivassiliou highlights.
At Odyssey Cybersecurity, learning is a permanent aspect of the job – upskilling happens constantly and deliberately. Employees pursue industry certifications and attend specialist conferences while teams share knowledge internally through workshops and technical discussions. Perhaps most importantly, employees are exposed to real client challenges – complex, high-stakes scenarios that accelerate experience. Growth conversations are embedded into performance discussions so that professional development becomes a natural part of everyday work rather than an afterthought.
The company’s commitment to its people has not gone unnoticed. Odyssey Cybersecurity has earned Great Place to Work certification for four consecutive years, in Cyprus and Greece. The recognition reflects something that the leadership takes seriously: listening. “We actively measure employee engagement through structured feedback mechanisms, including surveys, performance discussions and open communication channels,” Hadjivassiliou explains. “More importantly, feedback is not collected passively. It is analysed and translated into actionable improvements such as refining internal processes to reduce operational friction, enhancing communication between teams, improving internal tools and workflows and adjusting policies or benefits based on employee input.”
Work-life balance is another subject approached with realism. Cybersecurity can involve urgency and rapid response, yet Odyssey Cybersecurity actively encourages sustainable performance rather than constant availability. Flexible working arrangements, half-day Fridays and a management philosophy that values results over long hours are designed to ensure that people remain energised rather than exhausted.
“We strive to be more than just a workplace. We aim to be a platform where professionals can build long-term careers while making a tangible impact through cybersecurity. It is this alignment between innovation, deep expertise, and employee development, grounded in client focus and professionalism, that strengthens our culture and keeps us progressing together.”
In a competitive market such as Cyprus, that sense of purpose matters. An odyssey, after all, is not simply a journey from one place to another but a long voyage. And on any great voyage, the strength of the crew remains the deciding factor.
