Ports Authority: €52m Latchi port expansion works to begin within the first half of the year

Work on the expansion of the port in Latchi, Paphos district, is expected to begin by June 2026, the Director General of the Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA), Anthimos Christodoulides has said.

The project envisages the addition of approximately 184 new berths, as well as the creation of land-based supporting infrastructure with a total area of approximately 4,500 square meters.

These infrastructures, Christodoulides added in comments to CNA, will include boat maintenance and repair areas, dining and entertainment areas, offices, as well as facilities for housing government services.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be €52 million, he said.

As Christodoulides mentioned, the cost will be covered entirely from the reserves of the Cyprus Ports Authority.

At the same time, the port of Latchi will become the first "green" port in Cyprus, with the implementation of circular economy practices, rational waste management and the use of renewable energy sources.

He continued by saying that special emphasis was also placed on the consultation process, as, as he said, public consultations were held with both the local community and the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, on environmental issues as well as the overall operation of the project.

At this time, the special ecological assessment study and the Environmental Impact Assessment Study have already been submitted, which are before the competent government departments for evaluation.

The next step, according to Christodoulides, is to promote the project to the General Accounting Office for approval, so that an open tender can then be announced to find a contractor.

Describing the project as particularly important for the region and Cypriot port development in general, the General Director of the Ports Authority concluded by noting that at this time, in parallel with the development of the port in Latchi, the project to develop the port in Vasilikos is also underway.
