“The real estate development sector is a pillar of the Cypriot economy—a lever that shapes modern Cyprus and contributes to the progress of our country and its people,” stressed the President of the Cyprus Property Developers Association, Yiannis Misirlis, at the Annual General Meeting held on 9 December.
The General Meeting was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides, the Minister of Interior, Constantinos Ioannou, representatives of political parties, officials, and senior executives of business and professional associations.
Addresses were delivered by the President; George Pantelides on behalf of the President of the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB); the former President of OEB, George Petrou; and the Director General of the Cyprus Land Development Corporation, Eleni Symeonidou.
In his speech, Misirlis underlined that the property development sector has remained a driving force of prosperity and progress for Cyprus, in the face of challenges the country has confronted in recent years.
Also highlighting the need to continue the country’s dynamic course through a strategic approach to challenges, the Association’s President referred to affordable housing as the greatest social challenge. “With Cyprus’ upcoming Presidency of the EU, our country can, with strong political will, make a substantive contribution to the effort to tackle the problem,” he said, while also stressing the Association’s readiness to support this effort.
Misirlis also referred to the significant progress recorded in the effort to institutionalise the profession of Land Development Entrepreneur. “It is an initiative that declares who we want to be as a sector: professionals with accountability, a market with transparency, a country with credibility,” he said.
Referring also to the “green” transition, he pointed out that the sector is ready to lead this effort, with the valuable contribution of the state.
In closing, Misirlis thanked President Christodoulides, and the Minister of Interior for the high level of cooperation that has developed, with the shared goal of a modern and competitive Cyprus.
“We believe in a country that dares and innovates. With cooperation and faith in our capabilities, we continue to contribute to a Cyprus that aims high and has all the tools to get there,” he concluded.
