TechIsland inaugurated its first Town Hall with a clear objective: to bring all stakeholders to the same table and to create the conditions for meaningful, well-documented dialogue on the critical issues affecting Cypriot society and the economy.
Tanya Romanyukha, General Director of TechIsland, opened the event with this message, emphasising that the organisation’s role is to "support, connect, and collaborate — not to act alone, but to bring people together."
The Town Hall was created precisely to address this gap: to provide a shared space "where open, constructive conversations can happen, where different perspectives meet, and where we can collectively gain a clearer understanding of the challenges, the opportunities ahead and to see where TechIsland might be able to contribute or support in a thoughtful and realistic way."
"We aim to engage responsibly and be part of balanced, collaborative efforts toward practical solutions," she continued.
The choice of housing as the first topic was deliberate. As Romanyukha noted, “We chose to start with housing because it’s a pressing issue for everyone who lives in Cyprus. It shapes daily life, it influences the choices families and individuals make, and it impacts the long-term wellbeing of our society. It’s a complex challenge with many angles, and it requires open dialogue and shared understanding.”
Within this framework, Romanyukha also presented the structure of the event: a detailed presentation by Pavlos Loizou, CEO of Ask Wire and member of the TechIsland PropTech Working Group, mapping out the real situation through reliable data, followed by an organised discussion with the participation of experts from various fields.
In closing, Tanya Romanyukha thanked all participants for their willingness to contribute. Her message was clear: progress requires responsible participation and cooperation. And the first TechIsland Town Hall marked a significant step in that direction.
