The Cyprus Shipping Chamber organised its second Annual Blood Donation Drive in Limassol on 3 December 2025, in memory of former Secretariat member Ben Casey, who passed away in 2021.
Once again, staff from the Chamber’s Shipping Member-Companies made a significant contribution of blood units, offering vital support to local hospitals.
Over the past 30-plus years, Chamber-organised drives have collected more than 3,500 blood units, reflecting the shipping community’s enduring commitment to the health and well-being of our society. A single unit of blood can save one–three lives, which means that the industry’s longstanding contribution has helped in the treatment and recovery of up to 10,000 fellow citizens in Cyprus, depending on how the blood and its components are used.
“The Shipping Industry plays a vital role in Cyprus beyond the economy,” said Alexandros Josephides, CSC Director General. “Through initiatives like this, our Members show that they are deeply invested in the communities where they operate, making tangible contributions to the lives of everyday citizens.”
The Chamber warmly thanks all volunteers for their generous participation and reaffirms its commitment to its social responsibility programmes that make a real difference in society. The drive highlights the shipping sector’s ongoing social impact in Cyprus, an effort that is truly valued and not taken for granted.
