American University of Beirut (AUB) – Mediterraneo has announced the launch of the STORM Project – Integrating Seasonal Thermal Energy Storage in the Mediterranean Region, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme.
The three-year project brings together seven partners from Lebanon, Jordan, Cyprus, Italy and Spain to unlock the potential of seasonal thermal energy storage in the Mediterranean and advocate for sustainable, energy-efficient models for heating and cooling.
STORM aims to:
- Demonstrate and validate seasonal borehole and tank thermal energy storage technologies in Mediterranean settings.
- Increase the energy efficiency of Mediterranean buildings and reduce dependence on fossil fuels for heating and cooling.
- Build knowledge, tools, and policy support for wider uptake of seasonal thermal energy storage technologies across the region.
- Raise awareness on the benefits and usage of seasonal thermal energy storage in the Mediterranean communities.
