University of Cyprus signs €23m campus infrastructure contract with Cybarco Contracting

The University of Cyprus has signed a contract for the design, construction and maintenance of the Infrastructure Works – Phase B on the University Campus. The Contract was signed on behalf of the University of Cyprus by Rector Professor Tasos Christofides, and on behalf of Cybarco Contracting Ltd., by Nicolas Lanitis, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

"The Project constitutes a decisive step in the promotion and implementation of the University's strategic vision to make the Campus a model of a sustainable, green and smart city, as well as in highlighting and implementing modern approaches to energy and environmental issues, with a direct impact on society," a press release by the University notes.

The completion of the project will serve, among other things, to provide access to the construction sites of the new Student Housing and Research Centers. Pedestrian bridges to be built across the Kalogeros stream, which crosses the Campus, will give it a new role as an element of the natural landscape. The Project also includes the execution of all the necessary electrical and mechanical infrastructure, as well as the relevant network installations, for the integrated and safe operation of the Park and the road network, as well as future developments on the Campus.

"The creation of the Campus Park will create a significant green space with extensive landscaping , planting and shaping of green spaces with pedestrian paths, cycle paths, pedestrian bridges and a new lake. The Park will have all the necessary equipment and provisions for safe and equal access for all users, including people with disabilities," the press release continues.

The Project was awarded following an open tender process for the conclusion of a public project contract for the amount of €23,173,002 plus VAT. The duration of the Project, including maintenance, is 84 months (seven years), of which 24 months relate to the Design and Construction and 60 months to the Defects Liability and Maintenance Period.

"The new phase of infrastructure on the Campus confirms the role of the University of Cyprus as an institution that strategically invests in projects with long-term value. The Campus is evolving into an integrated environment that combines research, teaching and daily life, incorporating principles of green development, innovation and social responsibility. In this way, the University is shaping standards that go beyond academic boundaries and empower the progress of Cypriot society," the press release concludes.
