The Limassol Economic Forum 2025, the most important event for strategic dialogue and economic thought leadership, will open its doors on 24 October at the Parklane Resort & Spa in Limassol.
Each year the Forum brings together distinguished figures from across politics, diplomacy, business, and academia, offering participants not only analysis but also a glimpse into the future. Among this year’s line-up, one name resonates strongly: Jamie Shea, the man whose career at NATO for nearly four decades has left a lasting imprint on the very architecture of Euro-Atlantic security.
Shea’s professional journey is, in many ways, a chronicle of how international security itself has evolved over the past 40 years. As NATO Spokesman during pivotal times, he became a recognizable voice of the Alliance. Later, as Director of Information and Press and Director of Policy Planning in the Secretary General’s Office, he shaped NATO’s communications and long-term strategy. His final role within the organization – Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges – placed him at the helm of some of the most critical files of our time: cyber threats, energy security, and counter-terrorism. These were not abstract issues but urgent challenges, and Shea was among those ensuring the Alliance adapted to a rapidly shifting landscape.
Today, Shea remains deeply engaged in the international debate. In Brussels, he continues to offer his expertise as a Senior Fellow at Friends of Europe and Senior Advisor at the European Policy Centre, both highly influential think tanks at the heart of EU policymaking. At the same time, he serves as a Professor at the College of Europe in Natolin and Senior Counsel at Fanack/The Chronicle, while also having taught Strategy and Security at the University of Exeter between 2018 and 2022. This combination of institutional leadership, academic insight, and advisory work makes him one of the most respected voices on European security today.

At the Limassol Economic Forum 2025, Jamie Shea will join the discussion on the future of European defense and security. This is no ordinary debate. Europe is grappling with fundamental questions: what does “strategic autonomy” mean in practice, how can the continent rebuild its security architecture amidst the war in Ukraine, and where do the boundaries of its capabilities truly lie? With his trademark clarity and depth, Shea is expected to map out not only Europe’s strengths but also the obstacles it must realistically face. His perspective will also extend to the Eastern Mediterranean, where energy resources, maritime strategy, and great power rivalry converge to create new and complex security dilemmas.
Shea’s presence in Limassol underlines why the Forum has become such a vital meeting point. It is not simply a stage for speeches but a crossroads where politics, business strategy, and geopolitics intersect. Leaders and decision-makers attending will gain not only theoretical perspectives but also actionable insights — the kind of practical wisdom that comes from someone who has been in the room when key decisions were made.
