The ties between Greece and Cyprus in education are strong, the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, said in her address at the ceremony awarding her an Honorary Doctorate from the Department of Education and Social Work Sciences of the University of Patras.
The Minister noted that her Honorary Doctor of the University of Patras “is a supreme honour, which goes beyond my person and touches my country, Cyprus”.
Expressing her gratitude to the University of Patras for awarding her with an Honorary Doctorate, the Minister of Education stressed -among other things - that “Greece and Cyprus share a language, culture, memory and perspective. In our common path, universities are bridges that never collapse. They are the places where thought and freedom are cultivated, where the ideas that determine the future are born.”
Michaelidou also said that “the ties between Greece and Cyprus in education are strong,” adding that “thousands of Cypriots have studied and are studying in Greek universities, bringing back to their homeland knowledge, experiences, and life relationships.”
At the same time, she noted, “universities in Cyprus collaborate closely with universities in Greece, in research programmes, in academic exchanges, in joint cultural and innovation actions.”
“We want to strengthen this. We want further substantive collaborations, joint actions of paedagogical and social innovation. We want a bridge of seamless interaction, where ideas, people, and dreams will be transfered,” she emphasised.
The ceremony took place in Greece on 24 September.
