"Cybersecurity is a strategic priority in the country's digitalisation process," Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nicodemos Damianou said in his address at the 5th Cyber Security Conference held in Nicosia.
In a speech read out by the Deputy Minister's Director of Directorate of Cybersecurity Marios Tjiapouras on Damianou's behalf, the Deputy Minister underlined that our era is characterised by significant development and social progress, but at the same time, cyber threats are becoming increasingly complex and with greater impact than ever.
According to Dr. Damianou, the government has placed cybersecurity among its top priorities. In this context, actions are being implemented that include cultivating a cybersecurity culture among citizens through education, as well as strengthening the institutional framework with regulations such as DORA and other European and international directives.
The Deputy Minister emphasised that every challenge is simultaneously an opportunity to assess the resilience of the system and strengthen the country's defences. "Every bridge we are called to cross is an opportunity to learn where we are valuable and to become stronger than before," he noted.
