Cyprus and Greece among the most popular destinations for year-round tourism

Cyprus, along with countries such as Greece, Malta, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, France and Portugal, is at the heart of the new development in European tourism, according to an article in Travel and Tour.

Travelers are increasingly looking for meaningful, peaceful and culturally rich experiences, avoiding the traditional peak summer seasons. This trend highlights the importance of Cyprus as a destination that can offer unique experiences beyond the summer, attracting visitors all year round.

According to a recent analysis by INSETE (Institute of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises) on the tourist sentiment and reputation of Greece, which is a close neighbor of Cyprus, American and British travelers in particular are among the region's most ardent supporters, giving Greece very high scores (9.5 and 9.3 respectively) for its safety, hospitality and charm, especially during the off-peak period, i.e. from October 2024 to March 2025.

The growing demand from major markets such as the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, with an increase in arrivals of 40%, 16.2% and 20% respectively, demonstrates the ability of the region, and by extension Cyprus, to attract tourists throughout the year.

The strengths of Cyprus

Cyprus, by leveraging its rich cultural heritage, culinary offerings, natural beauty and infrastructure, can benefit from this trend and consolidate its position as one of the top European destinations, during off-peak periods.

Furthermore, the European tourism landscape is changing overall, with a 36% increase in travel searches in spring 2025. Travelers prefer destinations with mild climates and authentic experiences, especially during periods with less traffic, characteristics that Cyprus offers in abundance, along with other Mediterranean countries such as Malta, Spain and Portugal.

This trend confirms that Cyprus needs to continue to develop and invest in infrastructure, digital accessibility, integrated tourism services and authentic experiences to support the development of tourism throughout the year. The development of cultural, gastronomic and environmental programs can make Cyprus a destination that offers not only summer holidays but also unique experiences during the winter tourist season, strengthening its position as a year-round choice for airlines connecting our island to the world, but also for travelers.
