The most historic moment for Cypriot basketball has arrived, as the island is from today, Thursday, 28 August and until Thursday, 4 September, hostig the games of Group C of the prestigious FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
The games in Cyprus are taking place at the renovated "Spyros Kyprianou" Athletic Center in Limassol.
The FIBA EuroBasket 2025 began on 27 August with the matches of Group A and Group B in Riga, Latvia, and Tampere, Finland, respectively, and will run until 14 September, featuring 24 national teams from across Europe.
The first match of Group C will be between the National Team of Georgia and the National Team of Spain at 3pm. At 6.15pm, Bosnia and Herzegovina will face Cyprus, marking the historic first appearance of the Cyprus National Team in such a tournament.
At 9.30pm, the National Team of Greece will take on the National Team of Italy.
With a capacity of 8,000 spectators, the arena is ready to deliver an electrifying atmosphere for the Group C matches from 28 August to 4 September, where countless stars of global basketball will grace the court, including seven NBA players, from Greece Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks), from Italy Simone Fontecchio (Miami Heat), from Bosnia Jusuf Nurkić (Utah Jazz), from Spain Santi Aldama (Memphis Grizzlies), from Georgia Goga Bitadze (Orlando Magic) and Sandro Mamukelashvili (Toronto Raptors) and from Spain Eli Ndiaye (Atlanta Hawks).
At the same time, over 230 journalists and photographers have been accredited to cover the games, including approximately 50 Cypriots.
Media Manager of the event, Erodotos Miltiadous, told the Cyprus News Agency that around 400 volunteers will staff various departments of the tournament, while the additional personnel exceeds 50 people, covering all areas of responsibility, along with dozens of security staff.
The matches are expected to be watched by hundreds of millions of fans through television broadcasts and social media platforms.
A comprehensive entertainment programme has been prepared for the fans who will attend the Group C matches of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025. Throughout the event, various dance and music groups from Cyprus, Greece, and Georgia will perform on the court of the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center, offering a high-quality artistic programme before the game, during breaks, and at halftime.
