Ninety-five per cent of the lump sum given to households affected by the wildfires in the Limassol district, to cover immediate needs, amounting to €2.2 million has been paid to-date, according to Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis.
The supply of water and electricity has been fully restored to the affected communities, he notes.
The Spokesman, in a post on X, announced that 95%, some €2.2 million, has been paid to households to cover immediate needs.
Letymbiotis also said that cost estimates for 300 damaged homes have been completed while the first payment installments were underway for more than 160 cases.
The rent subsidy for families who cannot return to their homes begins from September 1, he adds, while the recording of damage to vehicles and machinery has been completed.
Letymbiotis also notes that €205,000 has already been paid to cover the salaries of 165 employees, while the coverage will continue for a total of three months, starting from August.
He added that €39,760 was disbursed to 14 businesses for damage to raw materials, goods and equipment.
According to the Spokesman, 1,266 farmers and livestock breeders received aid of over €3 million for loss of income, while 27 tourist accommodations received €136,000 in total in aid.
Additionally, 15 communities requested power generators through a special scheme.
A tree-planting programme will be implemented in autumn, according to Letymbiotis.
In the meantime, the Presidential Palace has given an update on the implementation of the measures announced to support households, farmers and other businesses.
Among other things, it notes that, regarding flood protection projects in the fire-stricken communities, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the Water Development Department has identified approximately 60 areas where such projects are required, and will begin in early September, with works for the most dangerous points to be completed by the end of October, it said. For the rest, priority will be given depending on the risk, it adds.
In relation to environmental restoration, it said that the competent service has submitted its recommendations for preventive measures.
