Temps reaching 43 °C inland on Tuesday, red alert level for risk of forest fires

Temperatures inland are expected to rise to around 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 12 August, according to the Department of Meteorology, which has issued an orange warning. Meanwhile, the risk of forest fires is at a "red alert" level.

The warning said that between 11am and 5pm on Tuesday, the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 43 degrees Celsius inland and approximately 34 degrees Celsius in the higher mountain areas.

In addition, the Forestry Department has issued a warning that the risk of forest fires on Tuesday will be at a "red alert" level.

In a press release, it emphasised that according to the Law on Forests and the Law on Fire Prevention in the Countryside, “causing a fire is a criminal offence that carries severe penalties”.

It made a very urgent appeal to the public to be especially cautious during their outings, completely avoiding actions and activities that could potentially cause a fire.

It urged anyone who notices smoke or fire to immediately call 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Service).
