Οutdoor labour suspended due to heatwave

The Labour Inspection Department has ordered a suspension of outdoor work and deliveries from 12 noon to 4pm on Monday, 11 August due to the heat wave and the orange warning issued by the Meteorology Department.

An announcement says that all outdoor heavy and moderate work and work involving the transport of products and/or the delivery of products using two-wheeled vehicles (e.g. motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles) or personal mobility devices (scooters, e-scooters), such as the transport and/or delivery of products/food/mail and/or other activities, are prohibited.

Work is suspended in areas with an altitude below 300 meters, which are more than 10 kilometers from the coastline and the highest mountainous areas, i.e. mountainous areas with an altitude above 1150 meters.

For light work in areas where the orange risk alert does not apply, the Department of Labor Inspection reminds that both employers and self-employed persons must measure the temperature and relative humidity and according to the conditions in place, must adjust their work and provide breaks to avoid or reduce heat stress. They can also keep on working in a cool and airconditioned place or under shade. Work could be rotated between employees whom must have access to cool water, appropriate clothing, shades and hat.
