Cyprus will faced with scorching temperatures again on Monday, 11 Augustand the Meteorology Department has renewed its orange alert. It comes into effect 11am local time and will remain in place until 5pm.
The maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 43 degrees Celsius inland, around 36 on the south and east coasts and around 34 degrees on the west and north coasts, as well as in the higher mountains.
The risk of forest fires remains on red alert.
The Forestry Department reminds the public that causing a fire is, according to the legislation, an offence that carries severe penalties. Citizens are called to be particularly vigilant during their outings and to avoid activities that may cause a fire.
They are urged to immediately call 1407 or 112 in case they notice smoke or fire.
