Cabinet approves scheme to promote digitisation of cultural agencies

The Council of Ministers has approved a scheme for the technological and digital upgrade of cultural agencies.

The scheme was drafted by the Deputy Ministry of Culture. In a press release, it said the aim is to support cultural organisations to utilise digital technology as a means for new and innovative ideas of artistic expression, enhance audience experience and create access for people with disabilities for an inclusive experience.

It will be implemented by the Department of Contemporary Culture for three years (2025-2027), however it may continue after its efficiency is assessed.

According to the Deputy Ministry, the scheme covers the purchase of specialised equipment, software (both off-the-shelf and custom-developed), as well as various other technological/digital upgrade expenses that are not directly related to IT systems.

The eligible expenses and equipment will be detailed in the official Scheme when it's announced. The grant will cover 85% of the total expenditure, with a maximum limit of €30,000 (excluding VAT) per cultural organisation.

The scheme will officially launch in September, and applications must be submitted by the end of October, the Deputy Ministry said.
