TechIsland Summit: Nicos Trypatsas on the benefits of listing on the Cyprus Stock Exchange

In a keynote speech at the recent TechIsland Summit, Nicos Trypatsas, Acting General Manager, Cyprus Stock Exchange explored how the CSE can become a viable path for local tech companies seeking capital and visibility.

Trypatsas briefed the audience on the CSE’s activities including the ongoing process of its privatisation.

Among other things, Trypatsas’ address also examined the opportunities created by potential partnerships between the CSE and international financial systems.

The session also highlighted how tech firms can leverage the local market for growth while unlocking new investment channels.

The Acting General Manager noted that this includes raising capital through the issuance of shares and bonds, facilitating their financing needs at the time of listing, or after listing.

Other channels include Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and Private Placements.

Companies, he added, also have the option of choosing a desirable Market Segment to list their securities, depending on their business needs.

Advantages of listing on the CSE, he noted, also include expansion of operations/activities, improved competitiveness and increased visibility as well as added prestige, among others.

Being listed, in addition, also impacts corporate governance and business development, and at a nominal costs compared to other capital raising or loans, Trypatsas pointed out.

Another benefit, for family businesses in particular, was that listing on the stock exchange made decisions on company control and successions easier.

Other pluses include, but are not limited to, price mechanisms determining the price of listed security on a daily basis while transparency is another plus and a vital parametre, he noted.

Trypatsas also underlined the interest generated by the the EU’s plan to unlock funding for Europe’s growth through the Capital markets union, which would encourage more EU citizens to invest in stock exchanges.

He concluded his keynote speech with a call to action,“Strengthening Businesses in Cyprus - the Cyprus Stock Exchange is the tool!"
