Hellas Sat signs MoU with Polish company Thorium Space

Hellas Sat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thorium Space, a Polish space company, which will see the two companies develop and build a fully flexible, software-defined payload working in Ku/Ka-band.

Thorium Space said this is its most significant deal to date. This payload will be on a Hellas Sat satellite that will be placed in the 39 degrees East orbital slot. The two companies announced the MoU on 10 June.

“The signing of the MoU with Thorium Space Technology marks a strategic partnership, highlighting Hellas Sat's commitment to providing innovative and reliable satellite communications,” Hellas Sat said announcing the news. “Working with the best manufacturing companies in Europe and worldwide, we enhance the flexibility and capabilities of Hellas Sat and effectively address the growing demands for satellite communications.”

The partnership aims to offer secure satellite connectivity services to the governments and Ministries of Defence of Poland and Greece by sharing resources on this new generation satellite and through access to the existing fleet in orbit.

The partnership between the two companies also includes an agreement to provide services to government, defense, and commercial entities in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe via the current Hellas Sat satellites fleet and this new Hellas Sat mission.

The two parties will also collaborate on the development of flat Ku-band terminals to dynamically adapt to the current needs and requirements of defense sector customers in both Poland and Greece.

Thorium Space founder Paweł Rymaszewski said the agreement is a significant milestone for the Polish company. “This is undoubtedly our greatest achievement to date in commercial co-operation with an international partner and also spectacular and historic success for the company, placing Thorium on par with the world’s largest space market players and making it the most important space company in Polish history. I have waited and worked for this moment for 25 years,” Rymaszewski said in a statement.
