Over 40 projects to upgrade Cyprus’ schools

Some 43 projects costing €149m are currently underway to build, expand, upgrade and renovate school buildings across the island, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth said in an announcement.

According to the ministry, 13 of these projects have either been completed or are expected to be finished ahead of the new school year, costing €7m.

The remaining 30 projects will be implemented during the 2023-2024 academic year, at a total cost of around €142m.

Among the most important projects – also funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund – are the two new Technical Schools that are being built in Limassol and Larnaca, as well as two Special Schools in Limassol, all worth an estimated €80m.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s Technical Services have called on the School District presidents to check all the school buildings to identify detached elements, check waterproofing and clean gutters, and check electrical installations and intercom installation, as well as arrange for the required Fire Protection Certificates to be issued.
