Ayia Napa hotel bookings have reached pre-pandemic levels says mayor

Hotel and apartment bookings have reached pre-pandemic levels in Ayia Napa, with the popular resort’s tourist accommodation being 85% to 90% booked, the town’s Mayor, Christos Zannetou, told the Cyprus News Agency.

“Based on the data, which we have cross-checked, including on overnight stays and hotel bookings, we are currently at the levels of 2018 and 2019; that is, the pre-pandemic era,” said Zannetou. “Ayia Napa’s hotels are between 85% and 90% booked up until mid-August.”

And even after the 15 August national holiday, when Cypriots traditionally go on their summer holidays, the inflow of bookings is satisfactory, said Zanettou.

“We are satisfied with the activity we have had this year, as there has been an increase in the tourist arrivals both from the traditional markets that favour Ayia Napa for their holidays, as well as from new and existing markets, which are currently growing and increasing,” he added. This, he said, was very encouraging, not just for Ayia Napa but for the country’s economy as a whole. “I hope that the coordinated efforts of all the stakeholders achieves our target, which is to increase tourist flow up until October to keep us as pre-pandemic numbers,” said Zannetou.

The mayor also said there appeared to be a rise in the trend for last-minute bookings, which shows that holidaymakers are on the lookout for the best deals.

As for the autumn, when bookings traditionally dwindle in Ayia Napa, Zannetou said a series of events were planned to attract more people.
