€25 million for GSI to be disbursed within the year, Energy Minister says

Following the issuance of the NAVTEX, procedures will begin for the disbursement of €25 million for the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection project within the year, Energy Minister Michael Damianos said on Friday.

Asked about the next steps regarding the project, the Minister said that the NAVTEX is expected to be issued by the Greek side, “which, as has been stated by official sources in Greece, will be within October,” adding that he could not go into details concerning dates.

Meanwhile, Damianos described as positive the statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding the GSI. In his comments to the Cyprus News Agency, the Minister said that “both in the past and today, the United States supports the energy programme and the Republic of Cyprus, both in terms of exploration and electricity interconnections.”

He added that the Republic of Cyprus is proceeding with its own energy programme, and that such statements and meetings take place within the framework of the 3+1 cooperation -the trilateral cooperation between Cyprus, Greece and Israel, with the participation of the United States- therefore, “our energy programme is moving forward.”
