Cyprus destinations dominate European autumn travel rankings

A study which measured the likelihood of rain alongside affordable flights across October and November ranked Cyprus as the top European destination during the autumn months.

The survey, conducted by the British villa holiday company Solmas Villas, analysed 105 destinations and found Cyprus dominating the top four positions due to the island's sunny weather, which usually sits between 24C and 29C.

Ayia Napa took first place for its wide array of beach offerings. During the autumn season, visitors can enjoy its "more relaxed side" with no more than an average of just 2.3 wet days each month from September to November.

Next ranked Limassol, for its variety of activities, combining nature with city tourism, and swimming options.

Third ranked Laraca, praised for its peaceful port city positioning, and the Finikoudes promenade which is lined with palm trees and endless seafront.

Meanwhile, Paphos ranked fourth, highlighted by its wide historical site offering and nature. The Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site, containing monuments and remains from the Roman era and the Middle Ages. Visitors can marvel at the floor mosaics, which are considered to be among the finest across the eastern Mediterranean.

The remaining six places on the list were taken by destinations in the Canaries, Greece, Malta and Spain.

“Whilst we can’t predict the weather, this data is as close as we can get to determining the best spots for the perfect autumn-sun holiday,” Sharon Bradbury, Managing Director at Solmar Villas, says.
