2027 Enters the Boardroom: Pieris Markou, Elias Neocleous and Constantinos Savvides meet at the 17th Limassol Economic Forum

The next business shock could come from anywhere. It could be triggered by a geopolitical conflict that disrupts supply chains, a new energy crisis that sends operating costs soaring, a regulatory decision in Brussels or an algorithm that turns a successful business model into an outdated one within months.

For CEOs, uncertainty is no longer an adverse scenario buried in a risk-management presentation. It is the everyday operating environment.

At the 17th Limassol Economic Forum, Pieris Markou, CEO of Deloitte Cyprus, Elias Neocleous, Managing Partner of Elias Neocleous & Co LLC, and Constantinos Savvides, CEO of bbf:, will enter the corporate war room of 2027.

The panel discussion, “Leading Through Uncertainty: How CEOs Are Preparing for the World of 2027,” will take place on Friday, 23 October 2026, at Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Limassol.

The Old Playbook No Longer Works

Businesses once had the luxury of planning five years ahead. Today, even the most carefully designed strategy can be overturned within weeks.

Trade disputes are reshaping supply chains. Energy costs are putting competitiveness under pressure. Regulatory requirements are becoming more demanding. Demographic change is intensifying the battle for talent. And artificial intelligence is redefining productivity, employment and the relationship between companies and their customers.

CEOs must now prepare their organisations for several possible futures at once. They must invest without knowing which technologies will prevail, pursue growth without assuming that markets will remain stable and move quickly without undermining the confidence of employees, clients and investors.

The dilemma is unforgiving: take calculated risks today or wait for greater certainty and risk falling behind the competition.

Three Perspectives, Shared Pressures

Pieris Markou brings the perspective of professional services, taxation and corporate strategy. With extensive experience in senior leadership, he understands how international developments translate into practical decisions for Cypriot businesses.

Elias Neocleous contributes decades of experience in complex cross-border transactions and an increasingly demanding legal and regulatory environment. A strong advocate for using technology to transform legal services, he is at the forefront of change in one of the most traditional professional sectors.

Constantinos Savvides adds the perspective of investment, finance and real estate — an industry in which decisions require significant capital, long-term planning and an accurate reading of markets.

Their sectors may differ, but the pressures are shared.

Where should businesses direct their investment? How can artificial intelligence increase productivity without creating unmanageable risks? Which skills will organisations need? And how much uncertainty can a corporate strategy absorb before it must change?

The companies that succeed in 2027 will not necessarily be the largest. They will be the ones capable of reading change early, adapting quickly and moving before their competitors.

The future will not be decided by who predicted it correctly.

It will be decided by who can lead when the prediction fails.

Europe’s Leadership Test

Annita Demetriou takes the stage at the 17th Limassol Economic Forum to address a defining question: Can Europe’s democracies remain strong, united and strategically responsible in an era of persistent uncertainty?

Europe is not simply confronting another crisis. It is facing a crisis of direction. War has returned to its neighbourhood, rivalry among global powers is intensifying and public confidence in institutions is being tested. Disinformation, political polarisation and the rise of extremist voices are placing Europe’s democracies under increasing pressure.

In this environment, leadership is measured not only by the speed of decision-making, but also by the ability of institutions to defend democratic values, preserve social cohesion and assume strategic responsibility.

This will provide the backdrop to the address by Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, at the 17th Limassol Economic Forum, taking place on Friday, 23 October 2026, at Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Limassol.

Under the title “Europe in an Age of Uncertainty: Leadership, Democracy and Strategic Responsibility,” Demetriou will focus on three principles carrying ever greater political significance: leadership, democracy and responsibility.

A Stronger Europe Without Weaker Democracy

The European Union must protect its borders and interests, strengthen its security and reduce its strategic dependencies. At the same time, it must remain faithful to the principles on which it was founded: the rule of law, human rights, parliamentary scrutiny and democratic accountability.

The dilemma is clear: How can Europe become stronger without becoming less democratic? And how can it act more decisively without excluding citizens from the decision-making process?

Parliaments cannot remain spectators in this debate. They must promote transparency, modernise their operations and rebuild meaningful connections with the societies they represent.

Annita Demetriou understands the importance of representation. She is the first woman and the youngest person to serve as President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus. Her priorities include modernising Parliament, strengthening engagement with citizens, safeguarding human rights and advancing parliamentary diplomacy.

Her address comes at a moment when Europe does not simply need more leadership. It needs leadership anchored in democratic legitimacy, institutional credibility and strategic purpose.

Uncertainty may be the new normal. Inaction, however, cannot be Europe’s response.
