Tourist arrivals reached 581,880 in August, compared to 602,026 in August 2025, recording a decrease of 3.3%.
Compared to August 2024, arrivals are up 4.9%, data released by the Cyprus Statistical Service on Thursday show.
From January to August 2026, arrivals of tourists totalled 2,820,649 compared to 3,034,155 in the corresponding period of 2025, recording a decrease of 7%.
Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for August 2026, with a share of 30.5% (177,603) of total arrivals, followed by Israel with 23.3% (135,628), Poland with 6.3% (36,622), Germany with 4.4% (25,823) and Sweden with 3% (17,441).
In August 2026, 84.5% of tourists travelled for holidays, 13% visited friends and relatives, and 2.4% travelled for business purposes.
Respectively, in August 2025, 86.5% of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 11.4% visited friends or relatives, and 2.1% visited Cyprus for business purposes.
Returns of Residents of Cyprus
According to CyStat, a total of 239,337 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in August 2026 compared to 238,740 in the corresponding month last year, recording an increase of 0.3%.
The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in August 2026 were Greece with a share of 36.6% (87,684), the United Kingdom with 6.9% (16,448), Italy with 4.6% (11,054), Poland with 4.3% (10,408) and Russia with 4.2% (10,021).
The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in August 2026 was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 93.1%, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 5.9%, studies 0.8% and other reasons 0.2%.
