Cyprus boasts Blue Flags at 46 beaches and two marinas this year, according to an announcement by CYMEPA, the national operator of the international Blue Flag Program in Cyprus.
The organisation noted that as of 17 July, 2026, Cyprus features 46 award-winning beaches and two marinas flying the Blue Flag. This represents "one of the most significant international distinctions in environmental quality and sustainable coastal management."
The Blue Flag is the most widely recognised international eco-label of quality for organised beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats. The program is operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and is implemented in more than 50 countries worldwide.
Awarding the Blue Flag is based on compliance with strict criteria. These include excellent bathing water quality, environmental management, bather safety, provided services, environmental information and education, as well as the sustainable management of coastal areas.
Of the 46 award-winning beaches in Cyprus, 27 are located in the district of free Famagusta, three in the Larnaca district, three in the Limassol district, and 13 in the Paphos district. Additionally, the country's two participating marinas were also awarded: Limassol Marina and Ayia Napa Marina.
Accessible beaches
Furthermore, the announcement emphasises that accessibility is a core priority of the Blue Flag Program. It is a mandatory criterion that at least one beach per municipality or community must provide access and restroom facilities for individuals with disabilities.
As of 14 July, 2026, 25 out of the 46 award-winning beaches feature special facilities and infrastructure that allow individuals with mobility difficulties safe and dignified access to the sea. Of these, 16 beaches are in the district of free Famagusta, three in the Larnaca district, two in the Limassol district, and four in the Paphos district.
Eight of these beaches are equipped with the SEATRAC system, which allows independent access to the sea.
